The S.T.C. Gurutalawa O.B.A. has set up a Dr. Hayman Memorial archives with memorabilia relating to Dr. Hayman and to complete the project by the end of this year. Its location will be the very office used by Dr. Hayman including the room he himself occupied. To date we have collected the following material :-

  1. 12 volumes of diaries he had maintained up to the year 1946 from the time he came to Mount Lavinia.
  2. His Photographic Albums.
  3. His 16mm cine films of school events and of his travel within Sri Lanka specially of Wild life.
  4. Various Photographs of him at different stages of his career.
  5. Photographs of events he was associated with.
  6. Letters he has written to Old Boys.
  7. Books and other papers of Dr. Hayman
  8. Miscellaneous items of interest.

We Appeal to all Old Boys to place try and locate any thing which could be placed in the archives either in their possession or with friends, such as Reports, Photographs, Letters. Originals will be well preserved for posterity and if these cannot be given out-right we intend to make photocopies.

We have commissioned a leading Sculptor Manoranjana Herath who has had several solo Exhibitions to make a bust of Dr. Hayman which has been placed on a pedestal and is the dominating centre-piece of the archives.

This will cost Rs. 60,000/- and with the other costs of tables, glass cupboards, Picture enlargement and framing and other accoutrements we will need about Rs. 150,000/- at least.(includes rehabilitation of the location.)

Please give generously. We shall publicly record your contributions in the archive itself whether it be in cash or kind.

Dr.Hayman's Sculptured Bust placed in the Museum, which was declared open by Mr.S.K.Wickremasinghe on the 21st. February 2004. It was cast by Sculptor, Mr.Manoranjan Herat from photographs given to him and displays an excellent likeness. This was a project of the OBA for which a few Members contributed graciously in full measure but the Museum needs further funds to expand.
