‘IT’ is set to ‘GO’ at Guru

With so many computers, Information Technology, is set to the ‘GO’ button. There was an opening ceremony of the New IT Centre on a low key on the 30th July 2005, Saturday. This coincided with the Ex-Co meeting scheduled there, as it is now a regular custom for the third or fourth meeting to be at Guru so that there is much personal interaction of the Staff & Students with the OBA. After a Prayer, the IT Centre was formally declared open by Father H.R.Goodchild, the Chaplain, as per the wish of the benefactor, Dulip De Silva, in the presence of Old Boys, Staff and Students. After a further blessing by the Chaplain, the Headmaster conveyed his gratitude to Dulip for the splendid gift bestowed on the School and said that the students had shown great interest in this field by acquiring much skills with the five units they had earlier, and these will give a further impetus. He also thanked Miss Dheemi De Silva, Dulip’s sister who helped immensely, in getting the goods cleared through the Customs and holding it at her place for two days for transport to Gurutalawa.

The Senior Vice President also thanked the benefactor and traced the antecedents. The offer was made by Dulip in early April & he shipped the goods from Sweden in May. They arrived in June so fast that the College had little time to refurbish a separate room to house them and also because the original offer was 15 units but 34 finally arrived. The Headmaster and the Computer Tutor, Mr. Pushpakumara had done a wonderful job in setting up the centre in the five weeks. He requested all concerned to ensure the security and safety of the valuable equipment.
