S. THOMAS' COLLEGE AT GURUTALAWA WELCOME BY THE HEADMASTER Welcome to the official website of S. Thomas' College at Gurutalawa. As you will see on entering the site the School has been, since January 2007, slowly but surely progressing towards complete revival. This School's traditions are noble, its ethos is strong and academic standards are growing together with the discipline and community life. Bishop Chapman's and Dr Hayman's vision to nurture all round, sound character continues to inspire us in our task of providing education at Guru. We are trying to continue to build on their vision and ideals. We continue to aim at developing in each child entrusted to us a sense of achievement and responsible independence. At Guru this means offering a learning environment that draws out the potential in each student so that each can excel through a wide range of academic, cultural, extra curricular and sporting opportunities. There has been progress, but much still has to be done to bring the school back to its past glory. One important link we are including is the E-Magazine. The School is still not in a position to publish the College Magazine due to the cost involved. We have however, decided to make a start with an internet version that we hope will provide our online visitors with information and our children the opportunity to develop their writing skills and talents. Our website is still under construction, but the work done by one of our old boys Muditha Dissanayake to set it up and the help of Lakshman Jayatilleke and his staff including Altaf Hussein in maintaining it thus far is greatly appreciated. The administration of the site is now under the control of the College and with the new broadband connection installed at Gurutalawa we will be able to upload material regularly to ensure up to date news. An important aspect of our continuing revival is the support and solidarity of old Thomians, friends of the School and well wishers. Presently the two main projects are the Swimming Pool refurbishment project and the upgrading of our IT facilities for which we require new computers. Please contact us if you wish to support our work in any way. Esto Perpetua. Rev. Marc Billimoria

I glimpse afar, the chapel tower, My heartbeat quickens, I hurry on, Reaching at last the trellised gate, I gaze upon the cherished scene I'd longed to see. Thro' all those years of wondering it lived with me in memory's store The College I love so well. Junius - The return |
