News Of Old Boys

Old Boys of the College will like to know of the achievements of colleagues and hence this new page. We will confine the contents to achievements in all spheres but it should be an "Individual Achievement" in the true sense, by applying oneself to reach high.
In this context, any appointments however high, may not be considered as they are subjective.
Any news of Old Boys you think have done the College proud, may be sent to the Webmaster or : <supuman@sltnet.lk>  for appraisal and inclusion.

HISTORIC EVENT.

A leading Mumbai film production company, Beyond Dreams Entertainment, in association with Light of Asia Foundation, is to produce a film on the life of Prince Siddhartha. The budgeted expense is US$.20 million and 90% of the film is expected to be shot in Sri Lanka.

Film Location Services Ltd., the leading international production organization, headed by Chandran K. Rutnam, a Guru Old Boy of the early 50’s, will handle the entire production at the Sri Lanka end. This organization also handled the production for the Deepa Mehta film “Water”, which recently won many awards in the USA and that location was around the scenic Bolgoda Lake to portray the Ganges River. Chandran had his early tutorship as Asst. Director to David Lean in the epic and timeless “Bridge on the River Kwai” shot at Kitulgala in Sri Lanka in the mid- sixties.

The “Colonel Boogie March” also shot into fame in this film. He has earned many credits since then.

The new venture has the blessings of Buddhist intellectuals and organizations worldwide, and in Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the National Film Corporation are very much behind the venture.

At US$.20 million this will be largest budgeted film to be shot here and will be a boon to hundreds of Sri Lankans who have the talent in the various related fields, to show their colours.

Chandran has been a very ardent supporter of the OBA and College and never fails to attend our functions.
